Spina-bifida hydrocéphalie Québec (SBHQ) focuses on mutual aid, prevention, information, finding solutions, and support so that people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus can live active lives.

The association was founded in 1976 by parents who felt helpless about the condition and future of their children and wanted to find ways to better prepare them for the future. The association also makes prevention one of its main priorities by informing about the importance for any woman who wants to conceive to take a folic acid supplement at least three months before becoming pregnant.
